OpenAI launches “Pinned Chats” feature in ChatGPT to combat information overload

In an effort to help users manage the growing flood of digital conversations, OpenAI officially rolled out the “Pinned Chats” feature for ChatGPT on December 19, 2024. The update is now being deployed globally across iOS, Android, and the web platform.

While ChatGPT has long offered smart auto-generated titles for conversations, many users still struggled to locate critical past chats amid an ever-expanding message history. Important discussions were often buried under newer exchanges, forcing users to scroll endlessly—a frustrating and time-consuming experience.

The new Pinned Chats feature directly addresses this pain point by allowing users to keep essential conversations permanently visible at the top of their chat list.

The implementation is intuitive:

• On web, users can click the “…” menu next to a chat and select “Pin”.
• On mobile, a simple long press on any conversation in the chat list brings up the pinning option.

Once pinned, the chat remains fixed at the top of the history, ensuring instant access without scrolling or searching.
