YouTube has permanently terminated two controversial channels—Screen Culture and KH Studio—known for publishing hundreds of deceptive, AI-generated fake movie trailers. The move has drawn widespread attention amid growing concerns over synthetic media and platform accountability.
According to a report by Deadline, the channels produced misleading trailers by blending official film footage with AI-generated visuals, creating content that appeared authentic to unsuspecting viewers. Some studios even attempted to claim ad revenue generated from these videos, falsely asserting ownership over the fabricated content.
YouTube spokesperson Jack Maloney confirmed that while both channels were initially suspended, they later returned to the YouTube Partner Program after making changes. However, once monetization resumed, they again violated YouTube’s policies on spam, deceptive practices, and misleading metadata, leading to their permanent removal.
The takedown highlights ongoing challenges in the age of generative AI: as tools make it easier to create convincing synthetic content, platforms like YouTube face mounting pressure to distinguish authentic material from deceptive imitations.
The incident has reignited debates around copyright enforcement, creator responsibility, and audience media literacy. As misinformation risks grow, YouTube continues to refine its policies and enforcement mechanisms to protect user trust and uphold content integrity on its platform.
