At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, BMW and Alibaba Cloud showcased the future of the automotive interior with their new AI Smart Cabin. Featuring three distinct AI personas—Car Expert, Travel Buddy, and Encyclopedia Master—the system moves beyond passive voice commands. Using generative AI, the car can now engage in active decision-making, such as suggesting optimized travel routes based on real-time life events or providing technical maintenance advice in plain language. "The vehicle is no longer just a tool; it is a collaborative agent that understands the driver’s intent and context," said a BMW spokesperson. The system also integrates "AI Pay," allowing users to handle parking, tolls, and even meal orders via secure voice authorization from the cockpit.
