Cursor, the renowned AI-powered code editor, has officially signed an agreement to acquire Graphite, an AI-driven code collaboration platform. The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, after which the entire Graphite team will join Cursor.
Following the merger, Graphite will continue to operate as a standalone product while gaining access to enhanced resources and technical support from Cursor. The core objective is to integrate their technologies and build an end-to-end AI development platform that covers the entire workflow—from writing and reviewing code to merging changes.
Graphite co-founder and CEO Merrill Lutsky described the partnership as a strategic alliance. Over the next few months, the two teams will focus on deep product integration. Specifically, Graphite’s AI Reviewer will be merged with Cursor’s Bugbot, and Graphite will leverage Cursor’s expertise in large code models to strengthen its existing AI automation features.
Cursor has already earned a strong reputation among developers for integrating advanced models like GPT-4 and supporting cross-platform use (Windows, Linux, macOS). Graphite’s strengths in stack management and collaborative workflows will complement Cursor’s capabilities in team-based development. This acquisition signals Cursor’s transition from a versatile “toolbox” into a comprehensive “production pipeline.”
