Chinese cybersecurity authorities have launched investigations into several AI platforms, including Xianying and Jiemeng AI, regarding their failure to comply with mandatory AI content labeling guidelines. The probe focuses on whether these platforms are adequately distinguishing synthetic content from real-world media to prevent the spread of misinformation.

New regulations that came into full effect on September 1, 2025, require all AI-generated content to carry both "explicit" visible labels and "implicit" digital watermarks in the metadata. Authorities are concerned that non-compliant platforms could be exploited for fraud or state-sponsored disinformation campaigns, particularly as generative video becomes more realistic.

The investigation serves as a warning to the broader tech industry that compliance is no longer optional. Platforms found in violation could face significant fines or suspension of their services. Regulators are emphasizing the need for technical transparency to maintain public trust in the digital ecosystem as AI tools become ubiquitous.
