Alipay has announced that its "AI Pay" functionality has officially surpassed 100 million active users, marking a significant milestone in the shift toward "Agentic Commerce." This feature allows AI agents to execute financial transactions on behalf of users, significantly simplifying complex multi-step purchases.
The system uses a "Voice-to-Transaction" protocol where the AI agent verifies the user’s intent and secures authorization via biometric voiceprint. For example, a user can say, "Find the best flight to Shanghai next Tuesday and book it using my rewards points," and the AI agent will autonomously navigate the booking site, compare prices, and complete the payment.
Alipay is also opening up its AI Pay API to third-party developers, allowing a new generation of "Shopping Agents" to operate within its secure ecosystem. This move is seen as a way to turn the Alipay app into a central hub for the "Agent Economy," where digital assistants handle the friction of daily life while maintaining strict security and privacy standards.
